The Ypsilanti Garden Club was founded in 1930. Miss Mary A Goddard, was the first President. Annual dues were $1.00 for all members and meetings were
held on the second Tuesday of
each month at 7:30.
Minutes of the first meeting of the Ypsilanti Garden Club:
On March 24, 1930, a group of people interested in gardens met in the
Natural Science lecture room of Michigan State Normal College to consider
the formation of a garden club. Mr. Hoover, acting as chairman by request,
called the meeting to order at 8 o’clock. Various preliminary remarks and suggestions of a more or less desultory nature were made. Moved, by seconded and carried that Miss Allison act as temporary Secretary. Moved Miss Goddard that a garden club be organized to include men and women, and that a committee be appointed to make plans and draw
up a constitution. This motion seconded and carried. In response to the chairman’s request for suggestions regarding the possible program affiliation of the location organization with some national unit: Mr. Lott discussed the civic value of such a club in encouraging the planning of beautiful gardens; Mrs. Vandersall and Mrs. Power emphasized the
same thought; Miss Ruth Barnes commend on its aid in landscaping. Moved by Miss Goddard that a committee of five, to include Mr.Hoover, be appointed or drawing up plans of an organization, such committee to report at the next meeting, seconded, carried.
The committee so appointed consisted of Mr. Hover, Mrs. Frasker, Miss
Hatton, Mrs. Powers and Miss Goddard, the latter as Chairman. Moved and seconded, and carried that Mr. Hover be empowered to draw Upon membership of group present to aid in work of committee. Moved and seconded and carried, that a meeting be called on April 7 to hear report of committee.

April 7
Meeting called to order by Mr. Hover. Minutes of previous meeting read
and approved. Report of committee on constitution read by Miss Goddard, Report discussed.
Moved, seconded, that constitution be adopted as read. Moved, seconded, to Amend motion by having dues changed from two dollars to one dollar. Motion lost. Original motion put to vote; carried.
In accordance with provision of constitution, chairman appointed three members to act as nominating committee to report at meeting on second Tuesday in May. Committee appointed consisted of Miss Allison, chairman, Mr. Payne and Mrs.Power.
No further business being at hand, the meeting was turned over to Miss
Goddard who introduced Mr. Payne, who talked
on spring flowers, and Mr. Berno, who discussed dahlias and their successful growing. Moved, seconded and carried,
that a special meeting be held on April 14, with Miss Goddard and Mrs.
Wilber to arrange for speaker.
